Speaking on Erçin Şahmaran’s Objektif program on Kıbrıs Postası TV, Denktaş shared his concerns about the implications of such a move.

Denktaş noted that Turkey's NATO membership could complicate matters further in this scenario. “When American troops first began deploying in the South, I warned that this might lead to efforts for NATO membership or becoming a NATO partner. The Greek Cypriot side has long sought to undermine the guarantee and alliance agreements in practice. This is why they signed defense cooperation agreements with Italy, Greece, and France,” he explained.

A Plan May Be Imposed Soon

Denktaş also suggested that a plan formed externally might soon be presented to the parties involved. "We should not wait for such a plan, as it will not serve our interests. Instead, we must develop our own proposal, seek Ankara’s support, and present it to the United Nations, the European Union, and the Greek Cypriots with a unified voice," he said.
