Özuslu: "2025 Should Be Declared a Traffic Emergency Year!"
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Sami Özuslu has called for 2025 to be declared a "Traffic Emergency Year" due to escalating traffic issues and their adverse effects on daily life.
Speaking during the discussion on the Ministry of Public Works and Transport's budget in parliament, Özuslu highlighted that traffic-related fatalities have reached record levels over the past two years. He noted that 47 people lost their lives in traffic accidents last year, with the same number recorded so far this year.
While acknowledging the increase in population and vehicles, Özuslu stressed that these alone cannot explain the rise in traffic accidents and fatalities.
Referring to the European Union's vision on traffic safety, Özuslu underscored the importance of adopting a visionary approach rather than relying on short-term solutions. He emphasized the need for comprehensive planning, addressing infrastructure, traffic education, licensing processes, vehicle inspections, signaling, and lighting systems.
Özuslu pointed to studies assessing the number of vehicles on the roads and stressed the need for more data-driven approaches to alleviate congestion in high-traffic areas.
He also expressed gratitude to the government for certain actions, such as employing individuals with disabilities.
