Akansoy: Erhürman’s Ankara Visit Crucial for Expressing Turkish Cypriot Will
CTP MP and Spokesperson Asım Akansoy emphasized that President Tufan Erhürman’s visit to Ankara is not merely a diplomatic engagement but carries significant importance in asserting the will of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Speaking on social media, Akansoy highlighted that fostering relations with Turkey on a solid and constructive basis reflects an approach that centers on the Turkish Cypriots’ existence, equality, institutional capacity, and democratic will.
He also noted the importance of the IMEC Project (India–Europe Economic Corridor) and stressed that the upcoming six-month European Union Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, beginning in January, should be closely monitored.
Akansoy underlined that these developments present a regional opportunity for transformation, which should be leveraged to demonstrate a collective commitment to a lasting solution within the framework of UN parameters on the island.
He reiterated that Erhürman’s Ankara visit is a crucial moment for expressing the Turkish Cypriot people’s determination and reaffirmed that good-faith relations with Turkey should prioritize the community’s rights, equality, and institutional and democratic strength.
