Çavuşoğlu: Investigation to Be Launched Against Teachers Violating Laws
Minister of Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu announced that investigations will be initiated against teachers who fail to comply with legal regulations.
Speaking on BRT’s Gündem 12 program, Çavuşoğlu commented on the strike organized by the Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS), criticizing the disruption of students’ right to education. He emphasized that just as teachers have the right to strike, the government also has the legal authority to postpone strikes to ensure that children’s education is not interrupted.
Çavuşoğlu criticized the union leadership for disregarding laws and the constitution, stating that the rights of students, parents, and the public were being ignored and describing the situation as unsustainable.
While acknowledging that resistance to extending education hours is normal, he stressed that the government remains determined to implement full-day education. Çavuşoğlu reiterated that preserving secularism is not the responsibility of the union administration and underscored that legal measures will be taken against teachers who violate the law.
