Harmancı: Erhürman’s Consistent Stance Is Noteworthy

In a social media statement regarding the meeting, Harmancı said the seriousness and diplomatic tone expected from a first meeting were successfully established.

“Although I do not agree with some of it, Mr Erhürman’s ability to maintain the position he put forward before the election in a consistent manner is noteworthy; likewise, Mr Erdoğan’s adjustment of his rhetoric in line with Erhürman is striking,” he said.

Harmancı noted that it was still too early to make positive or negative assessments following the meeting, adding that one of his medium-term concerns is the erosion that may result from avoiding the use of the word “federation” during talks.

He also stated that although expectations for negotiations are currently low, it is essential that urgent issues be addressed constructively with Greek Cypriot official Mr Christodoulides, and said they would do their utmost to contribute to the process.
