Sıla Usar İncirli: ‘The Government Has Long Been Dead
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Sıla Usar İncirli said the government “has long been dead,” stressing that the country’s most pressing issue is the lack of justice.
Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV’s “Sabah Postası” programme, İncirli also underlined the importance of merit-based governance and said there is no reason for resentment following the party’s extraordinary congress.
Evaluating last week’s congress, İncirli noted that the process unfolded with democratic maturity despite the short time since the presidential election. She said she did not expect the outcome to cause any divisions within the party.
‘THE GOVERNMENT HAS LONG BEEN DEAD’
Commenting on the state of the government, İncirli said it has become dysfunctional and is harming the country. She warned that issues ranging from the cost of living and security to economic and social crises are worsening by the day. İncirli emphasised that the country has the human resources needed to solve these problems and stated that, if CTP comes to power, it will work together with all segments of society to produce solutions.
A JUST AND MERIT-BASED GOVERNANCE APPROACH
Highlighting justice as the country’s biggest problem, İncirli said neither a healthy economy nor a trustworthy system can be built without it. She said CTP would adopt a model of governance based on merit, inclusivity and listening to different viewpoints. She added that they would prioritise assisting “those who need it most.”
RELATIONS WITH TURKEY
Discussing potential relations with Turkey should she become prime minister, İncirli suggested that Turkey is not satisfied with its current communication with the existing government. She said CTP aims for a relationship based on brotherhood and prioritising the needs of the Turkish Cypriot community. She stated that her team has the knowledge and competence to articulate their expectations clearly and emphasised that Turkey is a country that values the welfare of Turkish Cypriots.
‘CTP WILL SUPPORT EVERY STEP TAKEN BY ERHÜRMAN’
Addressing the presidential elections and criticisms directed at the president, İncirli said the Turkish Cypriot community’s commitment to a solution has been demonstrated during the Annan Plan period, Crans-Montana and on 19 October. She said CTP will support every step taken by President Tufan Erhürman and will continue to advocate for a federal solution framework in line with UN parameters. She added that the current process has so far contributed positively to creating a conducive atmosphere for a settlement.
