Üstel: Police Can Investigate Me and My Family Like Any Citizen; My Tolerance Has Limits
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel addressed ongoing defamation and smear campaigns targeting himself, his family, and colleagues, emphasizing that the police can investigate them as they would any other citizen.
He stated, “As a politician, I am ready to defend my political stance in every forum. But if this turns into slander and baseless campaigns, I have no choice but to turn to the judiciary. My tolerance should not encourage anyone; it has its limits.”
Üstel highlighted that, regardless of his position as Prime Minister or leader of the country’s largest and oldest party, he is equal before the police and judicial system. “I can be investigated on any matter, and legal action can be taken against me if something violates our laws. The judiciary is equally open to me,” he said.
He also noted that the government has mobilized all resources to enhance the operational capacity of the Police Directorate. “The Police can investigate me and my family like any citizen. I fully support this. There is and will be no interference or pressure from me,” Üstel emphasized.
Regarding the systematic continuation of defamatory and insulting publications, Üstel stated, “Like every citizen, I will exercise my legal rights against these smear campaigns. Our positions are temporary. The only legacy we leave for the future is an honorable life.”
