He stressed that the decision not to close schools had caused difficulties for both parents and students, noting that school buses were unable to operate in many areas and that such decisions should not be left to citizens but announced clearly by the authorities.
Speaking on Kıbrıs Postası TV’s Morning News programme, Kırok urged residents not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary and warned against using the mountain road.
Kırok said the problematic sections had been opened, but with rain still ongoing, the situation could change in the coming hours. He emphasised that missing one or two school days was insignificant compared to the widespread disruption caused, pointing out that despite the Ministry of Education’s decision not to declare a holiday, buses in several regions could not transport students to school, leaving parents to make their own judgement. He insisted that such decisions should be made and announced by the relevant authorities.
Kırok’s Later Statement: Roads Remain Risky as Rain Continues
In an update earlier today, Kırok said heavy rain continued in the region and warned residents using the Çatalköy–Ozanköy and Çatalköy–Değirmenlik routes to exercise maximum caution.
He again urged people not to leave their homes unless necessary.
Kırok also reported that the road between the Acapulco Hotel and the Elexsus Hotel had been severely affected by mud and debris caused by the rain, at times bringing traffic flow to a standstill. He called on drivers to be especially careful when passing through this stretch.
