Police and Fire Services Continue Response After Torrential Rainfall

Police, fire crews and other emergency teams are continuing interventions across the country after widespread flooding caused by heavy rainfall, with water pumped out of homes and businesses and stranded residents rescued.

According to a statement from the Police General Directorate, officers and firefighters are responding to calls in coordination with the Civil Defence Organisation, district offices, KIB-TEK and municipalities to assist residents affected by the severe weather.

Traffic teams are monitoring road conditions and providing updates to the public on which routes are open or closed, while also urging drivers to proceed slowly and with caution.

In Nicosia, fire crews conducted interventions at 10 locations using four vehicles and 10 personnel. Water was pumped out of five homes in Gönyeli and Boğazköy, and from one business premises in Ortaköy. Four people stranded in their vehicles in Gönyeli were also rescued.

In Kyrenia, teams intervened at four locations with three vehicles and 10 personnel. Water was removed from two homes in Zeytinlik and Ozanköy, and from two businesses in Çatalköy.

The Güzelyurt–Nicosia main road has been reopened between the Ağıllar roundabout and the Gönyeli Çağaloğlu traffic lights.

Closed routes remain as follows:
– The Güzelyurt–Nicosia main road between the Türkeli roundabout and the Alayköy roundabout (towards Nicosia)
– Gönyeli Şht. Hüseyin Amca Street
– The Nicosia–Güzelyurt main road between the Gönyeli underpass and the Hospital roundabout and the Ortaköy traffic lights (both directions).
