Haravgi newspaper reported that in 2022, the unemployment rate in Southern Cyprus was 6.8%, compared to the EU average of 6.2%, based on the Eurostat data.

The newspaper also noted that the youth unemployment rate in Southern Cyprus was higher than the EU average, with an unemployment rate of 14.1% among 15-29-year-olds, compared to the EU average of 11.3%.

These figures suggest that despite the efforts to reduce unemployment rates in Southern Cyprus, there is still a long way to go to catch up with the EU average. The government and other relevant entities need to take prompt action to create more job opportunities and implement policies aimed at reducing the unemployment rate, with particular focus on the youth demographic.
