“97 Irregular Migrants Detected off the Coast of Southern Cyprus"
It has been reported that 97 more irregular migrants were detected off the coast of Southern Cyprus over the weekend. While three individuals who transported the migrants to Southern Cyprus were apprehended, the migrants themselves were taken to the refugee center in Purnara.
According to the police, they are struggling to keep up with the daily influx of irregular migrants arriving by sea to Southern Cyprus. Alithia newspaper stated that 97 irregular migrants were identified at sea over the weekend, with a few of them being arrested and the rest being transferred to the refugee reception center in Purnara.
The newspaper also noted that three individuals, aged 31, 38, and 47, who were responsible for transporting the migrants to Southern Cyprus, were taken into custody. Among the irregular migrants, it was reported that 71 were male, 6 were female, and 20 were children.
