Emirhan Yürük, the intoxicated driver responsible for the accident resulting in the death of Barış Ağca on the Girne - Güzelyurt main road, appeared before the court again and will remain in custody for another 8 days.

Emirhan Yürük, the driver involved in the accident resulting in the death of 19-year-old Barış Ağca on the Girne - Güzelyurt main road, appeared before the court again.

Police sergeant Salahi Adlı presented the facts in court. The police stated that on March 25, 2024, around 02:30, Emirhan Yürük, driving a sedan with license plate UE 621, under the influence of 172 promils of alcohol, carelessly veered to the right side of the Girne-bound lane of the Girne - Güzelyurt main road between the 12th and 13th kilometers, resulting in a head-on collision with the sedan with license plate EE 461 driven by 18-year-old Zeynep Kartal, who was coming from the opposite direction. The police stated that as a result of the accident, Barış Ağca, a resident of Alsancak and a passenger in the EE 461 plated vehicle, lost his life at the scene.

The police further mentioned that as a result of the accident, 30-year-old Tuğçe Kocagül, a passenger in the UE 621 plated vehicle, and Zeynep Kartal, the driver of the EE 461 plated vehicle, were severely injured and admitted to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, where Tuğçe Kocagül was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage and Zeynep Kartal with a skull fracture, chest fracture, and internal organ injury, and both were placed under intensive care observation.

The police also stated that Emirhan Yürük, the driver of the UE 621 plated vehicle, was arrested, and an investigation was initiated. The police mentioned that the suspect was brought before the court and detained for 3 days, during which they examined numerous camera footage and obtained statements.

The police requested an extension of the detention period for another 8 days, citing additional statements to be taken and other camera footage to be reviewed.

After evaluating the evidence presented, Judge Evren Mürsel ordered the suspect to remain in custody for 8 more days.
