The panel titled "Media during the Annan Plan Process" was held as part of the activities initiated by the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Annan Plan Referendum. The event, organized under the theme "This Country is Ours, We Exist, We Write History," took place at Girne Dome Hotel yesterday.

Moderated by Muhittin Tolga Özsağlam, the panel featured journalists Hasan Hastürer, Erdal Güven, Başaran Düzgün, and Mustafa Karaalioğlu as speakers.

Attending the panel were the former 2nd President and former CTP President Mehmet Ali Talat, CTP Chairman Tufan Erhürman, Secretary General Asım Akansoy, Girne District Chairman Ongun Talat, Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, Dikmen Mayor Yüksel Çelebi, members of the Central Executive Committee, and some MPs.

During the panel, Başaran Düzgün emphasized the importance of the Annan Plan in Cyprus's history and recounted his experiences as a journalist at Kıbrıs Gazetesi during that period. He highlighted the challenges faced by journalists and the newspaper, including attacks and threats.

Erdal Güven reflected on how the Cyprus issue shaped his journalism career and noted the transformation in the media landscape during the Annan Plan process.

Mustafa Karaalioğlu stressed the significance of revisiting and discussing the Annan Plan, considering it one of the most unique solution documents in the world.

Hasan Hastürer emphasized the role of journalists as observers and recorders of events and shared his experiences of advocating for the Annan Plan with conviction.

Overall, the panelists discussed the challenges and transformations within the media landscape during the Annan Plan process and reflected on the broader societal implications of the referendum.
