Pointing out that using a mobile phone while driving causes drivers to divert their attention to the activity or conversation on the phone, leading to not noticing one-third of warning signs and signals on the road, the police stated that this contributes to accidents.

In a written statement by the Police General Directorate, it was highlighted that many traffic rules are violated by drivers during routine traffic inspections nationwide, reflecting the results of the inspections. It was also mentioned that traffic light violation checks were conducted by the Police General Directorate between April 15th and 21st as part of efforts to prevent traffic violations and accidents, and the results were shared with the public.

The statement noted that in addition to the traffic inspections conducted nationwide by traffic teams affiliated with District Police Directorates between April 22nd and 28th, a focus was placed on drivers using mobile phones while driving, and 957 drivers caught using mobile phones were reported.

While 12,322 drivers were reported for using mobile phones while driving in 2023, the police highlighted in the statement that in 2024 (from January 1st to April 28th, 2024), 5,906 drivers were caught using mobile phones while driving. The statement emphasized that the primary basis for the phone ban is accident prevention.

The statement concluded by reminding that police inspections in traffic will continue on all matters and inviting all drivers to contribute to accident prevention by adhering to traffic rules.
