21 Fires and 48 Special Service Incidents Occurred in a Week

The Fire Department of the Police General Directorate intervened in 21 fires and 48 incidents between April 22 and April 28. According to the weekly Fire Department report, the total damage caused by the fires was approximately 1 million 370 thousand 50 TL.

Of the fires, 7 occurred within the jurisdiction of Nicosia, 4 in Güzelyurt, 4 in Geçitkale, 2 in Gemikonağı, 2 in Famagusta, and 2 in Kyrenia.

The possible causes of the fires were listed as follows:

"Short circuit, cigarette butts thrown without being extinguished by unknown individuals, sparks from contact between overhead power lines igniting dry grass, burning for cleaning purposes by unknown individuals, excessive heating of surrounding fiber materials due to a lamp left on, ignition of accumulated oil and debris in the chimney, ignition of fabric pieces by disinfectants and chemicals spilled in the rear part of the vehicle due to interaction with sunlight, and intentional ignition."

Special service incidents intervened by the fire brigade included "rescue of cats trapped in food cans and in the engine compartment of vehicles, precautions against fires, rescue of individuals trapped inside vehicles and elevators, special missions, providing fire training, rescuing dogs trapped on the roof of a house and in swimming pools, ensuring road safety, rescuing a crow trapped among branches on a tree, and facilitating the referral of deceased individuals to the hospital for forensic investigation purposes."
