Seven individuals involved in a brawl that erupted over traffic in Nicosia will remain detained for three days as part of the investigation.

In Nicosia, two groups formed during a brawl over traffic, and they assaulted each other. Berşan Haznedar, Ümit Haznedar, Mahir Baykal, Abdullah Baykal, Oubeid El Abbası, Jaouad Temsamanı, and Mohamed Reda Ben Taquet were arrested and brought before the court yesterday.

Police officer Erbay Mavigözlü presented the facts in court. The police stated that on May 5, 2024, around 9:00 p.m. at Metehan, Berşan Haznedar, Ümit Haznedar, Mahir Baykal, Abdullah Baykal, arguing over a traffic issue, formed one group, while Oubeid El Abbası, Jaouad Temsamanı, and Mohamed Reda Ben Taquet formed the other. They engaged in a fight by hitting each other with their hands and feet and then made inappropriate gestures and shouted without reasonable excuse, causing a disturbance.

The police noted that the suspects were arrested on the same date due to being caught in the act and were taken to Nicosia State Hospital for a doctor's examination, and a doctor's report was obtained.

The police stated that the doctor's report revealed a fracture in the right index finger of the suspect Ümit Haznedar. They mentioned that they are investigating how the fracture occurred and will examine the camera footage, take statements, and investigate the statements made by the suspects.

The police officer requested that the suspects be detained for three days.

After evaluating the testimony, Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç ordered the suspects to be detained for three days.
