Burglar Breaks Glass with Crowbar, Steals 1,026,766 TL

In an incident in Nicosia, Obinna Maxwell Nwakonuche, who illegally resided in the country, broke into the Euro Care IVF Center's glass window with a crowbar and stole a total of 1,026,766 TL. The suspect will remain in pre-trial detention for three months.

Obinna Maxwell Nwakonuche, detained for "Breaking and Entering, Theft, Deliberate Damage, Trespassing, and Residing in the TRNC without Permission," appeared before the court.

Police officer Emrah Turgal, testifying about the incident, stated that Obinna Maxwell Nwakonuche caused damage totaling 7,500 TL by removing the iron bars of the window facing the South of the Euro Care IVF Center in Nicosia and breaking the glass with the help of a crowbar on May 7, 2024, around 00:15. The suspect entered the premises, stole 8,100 Euros, 13,915 Dollars, and 7,355 Pounds from a wooden drawer, and exited the same way. Turgal added that during the investigation, a crowbar and an iron rod, presumably used by the suspect, were found at the scene. The suspect was identified from the surveillance footage of the same day and subsequently arrested based on a Detention Order from the Nicosia District Court.

The police stated that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, revealing that he had hidden the stolen money, totaling 1,026,766 TL in Turkish Lira equivalent, in the courtyard of the former State Chemistry Laboratory. The police recovered the hidden money as evidence.

Additionally, the police found the gloves and clothing worn by the suspect on the day of the incident on the rooftop of the apartment where he resided.

Furthermore, during the immigration check, it was discovered that the suspect had been residing in the TRNC without permission for a total of 702 days since June 5, 2022.

Having evaluated the testimony, Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç ordered the suspect to remain in pre-trial detention for a period not exceeding three months to ensure his presence at trial.
