Adem Ünal to Be Detained for 3 Days After Punching Police Officer Over Wife's Traffic Ticket

Last night in Kyrenia, Adem Ünal was detained for three days pending investigation after allegedly punching a police officer in the face over a traffic ticket issued to his wife. The incident occurred on Namık Kemal Street, where Ünal, a passenger in the vehicle, became enraged when traffic officers cited his wife for a violation.

Police officer Barış İpek testified in court, detailing the incident. İpek reported that Ünal faces charges of "serious harm," "obstruction of a police officer," "intoxication," "disturbance," and "inappropriate behavior."
The incident took place at around 01:15 AM when Ünal, under the influence of 360 milligrams of alcohol, exited the vehicle with plate number ES 541. He approached the traffic checkpoint, shouted loudly, and waved his arms erratically. Ünal then punched officer H.Y. in the face, causing him to fall and suffer a broken ring finger on his right hand.
Following the assault, Ünal was subdued by the police using reasonable force and arrested at the scene.
In court, officer İpek requested that Ünal be held in custody for three days to allow time to review camera footage from the area and verify Ünal's statement.
Addressing the court, Ünal apologized, stating, "I committed this crime due to adrenaline from alcohol, and I apologize."
Senior Judge Murat Soytaç ordered Ünal to be detained for three days to facilitate the investigation.
