Akbar's Family Demands Justice
Akbar’s family and friends have expressed their demand for a fair trial, criticizing the decision to release Erdoğan to his military unit without detention. They held a vigil at the accident site on June 18, calling for justice and threatening larger protests if their demands are not met.
Incident Details
On June 15, Erdoğan, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level of 143 milligrams, lost control of his vehicle while navigating a curve. The vehicle veered off the road, hitting the curb before striking Naveed Akbar and Sajidullah Khan, who were sitting on a bench. The car continued uncontrollably, eventually hitting a streetlight and plunging 3.4 meters into the sea.
Akbar was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at Cengiz Topel Hospital. Erdoğan and his passenger Aysu Demir were treated and discharged from the hospital, while Khan remains under observation. Erdoğan was taken into custody following the incident.
