Erdoğan Announces New Drilling Ship: South Cyprus Should Rely on Its Own Strength

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the acquisition of a new drilling ship and criticized South Cyprus for its natural gas collaborations with Israel, stating that peace cannot be achieved without Turkey's involvement. "South Cyprus should rely on its own strength rather than tagging along with others," Erdoğan said.

During his remarks, Erdoğan emphasized that joining Israel in its actions does not benefit either the Greek Cypriots or Greece. He reminded that Turkey currently operates four drilling ships and will soon acquire a fifth. "South Cyprus needs to believe in its own power without following others," he reiterated.

Erdoğan also shared details of his recent conversation with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the NATO summit. "I told him, 'I'll be in Northern Cyprus, addressing the people there. I've heard you'll be in the South. Hopefully, we won't make any statements that will disturb each other.' He agreed with me. However, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias made inappropriate remarks, calling Turks occupiers. Such statements are unacceptable and disrespectful. Mitsotakis should address this," Erdoğan explained. "We don't need to say much more; we have already discussed what was necessary and will continue on our path."

"They Build Military Bases; We Build Political Ones"

Erdoğan highlighted the ongoing construction of the Presidential and Parliamentary buildings in Northern Cyprus. "I wanted to see their progress. Both buildings are magnificent and should be completed by mid-November. Alongside these, a beautiful mosque is being built. These are more significant than military bases; we are creating political bases. We will continue our work effectively," he said.

Erdoğan emphasized the importance of ensuring peace on the island and avoiding actions that increase tensions or violate international law. "Turkey will take necessary steps at the right time to contribute to the island's peace," he concluded.
