According to the Haravgi newspaper, Dougthy marked the 50th anniversary of the events of 1974 through a statement on the social media platform “X,” highlighting that the Cypriot people have been “divided for an excessively long time.” He emphasized the necessity of resolving the Cyprus issue within the framework of United Nations (UN) parameters, advocating for a bi-communal and bi-zonal solution.

Dougthy urged the parties involved to engage in the UN-led efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue and to demonstrate the necessary flexibility to reach a consensus.

The report also mentioned a statement by Philip Christopher, President of the International Coordinating Committee - Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA), who called for an immediate end to what he termed as the “Turkish occupation,” stating that “50 years of occupation” is enough.
