Man Arrested for Six Years of Illegal Stay Sentenced to Jail
Iruvie Wanogho, who has been living illegally in Northern Cyprus for six years, appeared in court and has been ordered to remain in prison for no more than 20 days.
Wanogho was apprehended for residing without authorization in Northern Cyprus and brought to court yesterday.
Police Officer Yılmaz Sevdalı, from the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Branch, presented the case in court. Sevdalı reported that during an immigration check on July 21, 2024, at 23:40 in Nicosia, it was discovered that Wanogho had been residing in the TRNC illegally since May 16, 2018, totaling 2,258 days.
The police completed their investigation, stating that Wanogho had no legal status in the country and would likely continue to commit the same offense if released. They requested that Wanogho be sent to jail.
Judge Jale Ergüden, reviewing the evidence, ordered that Wanogho be held in prison for a period not exceeding 20 days to ensure his availability for future court appearances.
