Üstel confirmed that Economy and Energy Minister Olgun Amcaoğlu will continue in his role and will not resign. He stated that Amcaoğlu will make the most appropriate decision regarding candidacy. “Amcaoğlu and I have a longstanding friendship dating back to his days in local government. He remains a member of my cabinet and is fulfilling his duties. I do not expect him to resign. I have no intention of removing him from office. While there is pressure on him from his surroundings to run, he will make the final decision,” Üstel said.

Aşıkoğlu’s Resignation

Üstel also addressed Economy and Energy Minister Şahap Aşıkoğlu’s resignation and his request for a meeting via the press. He criticized Aşıkoğlu’s resignation through the media as inappropriate and emphasized that the resignation process should be a unilateral mechanism. Üstel noted that there are many people within UBP capable of fulfilling the role if Aşıkoğlu resigns.

Three-Candidate Congress

Regarding the UBP Congress scheduled for September 21, Üstel stated that he will compete against Hasan Taçoy and Dr. Ahmet M. Karavelioğlu. He mentioned that the application process for candidacy is not yet complete, but he believes party members will make the best decision. Üstel added that they are carefully listening to criticisms and planning adjustments accordingly.
