According to information obtained by Kıbrıs Postası from citizens, it was reported that the increase in public transportation fares occurred two weeks ago.
Despite being a tourist island, citizens have pointed out that public transportation does not meet the standards of the 21st century and emphasized that this mode of transport is unbefitting for the country.
Citizens also noted that the public transport vehicles, which lack air conditioning and have one wheel in a pit, could even invite accidents. They argued that public transportation needs to be modernized in a way that reflects the public's rights.
TOPALOĞLU: THE INCREASE HAD BEEN DECIDED IN ADVANCE BUT WAS NOT IMPLEMENTED
Fuat Topaloğlu, President of the Cyprus Turkish Modern Public Transport Operators Association, spoke to Kıbrıs Postası regarding the issue. He highlighted that the decision to increase fares had been made long ago, but it was not implemented due to concerns about the impact on the public's purchasing power.
