KSTU Secretary and Assistant Appear in Nicosia Criminal Court
Serdal Gündüz, the general secretary and shareholder of Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU), and his assistant, Berk Özbek, who are detained as part of an ongoing investigation, appeared before the Nicosia Criminal Court. The court has postponed the trial until September 10.
The case was heard in the presence of Nicosia Criminal Court President Füsun Cemaller, Senior Judge Vedia B. Barkın, and Judge Tutku Candaş. This marks the first appearance of Gündüz and Özbek in court.
LEGAL REPRESENTATION
During the proceedings, Serdal Gündüz's lawyer, Doğa Zeki, stated that while there are a total of 12 cases, they have only received information on two. Zeki emphasized the necessity of having access to all the cases.
Berk Özbek's lawyer, Hasan Yücelen, mentioned that there is only a single file involved, focusing on money that was deposited into Özbek's personal account.
CHARGES AGAINST THE DEFENDANTS
The charges against the defendants include "obtaining money by fraud," "fraud," "forgery and circulation of forged documents," "manipulating and defrauding accounts," "money laundering," "provoking payment orders," and "embezzlement by an employee."
During the initial inquiry at the Omorfo District Court, where eight witnesses testified, the defendants were charged with a total of 98 offenses.
