CHP Criticizes US-Cyprus Defense Agreement: A Direct Threat to 'Blue Homeland'
Yankı Bağcıoğlu, Deputy Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) of Turkey, expressed concerns over the defense agreement signed between the US and Southern Cyprus, labeling it a direct threat to Turkey's national security, specifically the "Blue Homeland" doctrine.
In a written statement, Bağcıoğlu emphasized that the enhancement of Southern Cyprus's military capacity through such agreements poses significant risks to peace and stability in the region.
Bağcıoğlu stated, "The expansion of the US military presence in Southern Cyprus through these collaborations jeopardizes regional peace and stability." He further stressed that these developments should not be met with mere muted condemnation, urging the Turkish government to adopt a firmer stance to protect national interests.
Bağcıoğlu criticized the government's lack of a robust response, saying that the risks posed by the agreement extend beyond bilateral relations, threatening the broader stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region. He called for a more decisive defense of Turkey's security and strategic interests.
