Young Businessmen’s Association: Lack of Planning in Education is Unacceptable
The Young Businessmen’s Association of Northern Cyprus criticized the one-week delay in the opening of schools, calling the lack of planning in education unacceptable.
The association emphasized that schools were delayed due to uncompleted teacher appointments and infrastructural deficiencies in schools, labeling the situation as "irresponsible."
In their statement, the association pointed out that this delay not only disrupts the educational process but also undermines students' future dreams, motivation, and right to education.
Urgent Steps Needed
The Young Businessmen’s Association demanded transparency regarding funds collected under the "earthquake tax," which were supposedly intended for improving the physical conditions of school buildings. They called for the following urgent actions to ensure students receive the education they deserve on time:
- Immediate completion of teacher appointments.
- Resolution of school infrastructure issues.
- Removal of political interference from education.
- Long-term educational planning.
- Transparent reporting on the use of the earthquake tax.
The statement continued, "The lack of planning and seriousness has reached an unacceptable point." The association expressed disappointment over the failure to implement necessary measures to ensure the continuity and efficiency of the education system for years.
They highlighted that the delay in teacher appointments and the unfinished construction works in schools are clear signs of mismanagement. The delay in teacher exams and the unresolved physical deficiencies are contributing to a chaotic situation in education, leading to students losing interest in their education and hindering their social and academic development.
Impact on Society and Economy
The association stressed that the mismanagement of the education system negatively affects not only students but also parents and the economy. The delay in opening public schools, while private schools have already begun their academic year, undermines the principle of equal opportunity in education and creates an unjust situation.
"The inequality in education further disadvantages students in public schools, pushing them further behind," the statement read.
They emphasized that education is a process that shapes the future, and the inability to plan even two days ahead is concerning. They added that the national education system, allegedly overshadowed by political conflicts, is risking the future of not only children but the entire country.
The association called for education to be made a government policy beyond politics, with contributions from all stakeholders through a comprehensive reform, noting that short-term political gains should not take precedence over the long-term interests of the country in all sectors of government.
