Erhürman: We won’t be UBP’s crutch

CTP leader Tufan Erhürman announced in a statement in front of Parliament that the party would not support UBP, saying, “We won’t be UBP’s crutch.” He also stated that CTP’s MPs would soon gather at party headquarters for a Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting to discuss their proposal for an early election date.

Erhürman: We won’t be UBP’s crutch

Following the CTP Parliamentary Group meeting, Erhürman, addressing the press alongside MPs, highlighted the events of the previous day, remarking, “Everyone saw what happened here yesterday. In our statement last night, we said this issue needs to be resolved today. Zorlu Töre is still the Speaker of the Assembly. We signed a petition for the Advisory Council to convene and initiate the new election process, but Zorlu Bey did not take action.”

Erhürman explained that, since Töre was acting in President Ersin Tatar’s absence, Deputy Speaker Fazilet Özdenefe was also acting in Töre’s place. He expressed frustration with the ongoing situation: “We stand by what we said — this is the end of the line. This is no longer a matter of technicalities or who deputizes for whom. They proposed different candidates, but couldn’t elect them.”

The CTP leader further emphasized that the party would not participate in what he described as a dysfunctional government. "CTP won’t be used as a crutch. We say the film has ended, and the mandate must be renewed." He called for an immediate resolution, adding, “This government officially demonstrated yesterday that it cannot govern.”

Erhürman reiterated that CTP would not cooperate and stressed the urgency of early elections: “Fazilet Hanım will not call the Advisory Council. This country is not being governed. We are faced with a structure admitting it cannot manage this country. The situation needs to be cleared up as soon as possible.”

Concluding his remarks, Erhürman stated that the party’s MYK would meet to determine their stance on the election date and communicate it to the public.
