New Candidate on the Horizon for Parliamentary Presidency
Following Zorlu Töre's failure to secure the Presidency of the Republic’s Assembly with 23 votes in favor and 25 against, attention has shifted towards a new candidate.
After meetings of the National Unity Party’s (UBP) Central Executive Committee (MYK) and Party Assembly (PM), a decision was made to move forward with a new candidate for the Parliamentary Presidency.
According to information obtained by Kıbrıs Postası, the UBP parliamentary group will convene on Thursday to determine the new candidate.
This development follows the fifth round of voting, where Töre fell short of the majority needed. Attorney General Sarper Altıncık confirmed that Töre could not be elected as Speaker, as the 'no' votes outnumbered the 'yes' votes.
