Speaking on the election for the Parliament Speaker, Şahali criticized the use of double stamps, arguing that it contradicts the principle of secret voting. “Secret means standard and indistinguishable,” he said.

Şahali accused three UBP MPs of hiding and engaging in what he called "Karagöz-like behavior" during the voting process.

"Zorlu Töre Did Not Act Within the Scope of His Duties"

Appearing on Kıbrıs Postası TV’s Sabah Postası program, hosted by Gökhan Altıner, Şahali emphasized that Parliament is a reflection of democracy in the country. He criticized Zorlu Töre, claiming that Töre had not fulfilled the duties and responsibilities given to him by the Speaker's role. “Zorlu bey even forgot that he is obliged to respect the views of MPs in the Parliament,” he added.

"We Support the Functioning of the Parliament"

When asked what CTP's plan is, Şahali affirmed that the party will fulfill its responsibilities to ensure the proper functioning of the Parliament. “We believe the Parliament should be a house of democracy,” he said.

Şahali emphasized that CTP's expectation is for UBP to act in accordance with the conditions that form the Parliament, and expressed his support for the proper functioning of the legislative body. He also accused UBP MP Ziya Öztürkler of using someone else’s phone and taking photos during the voting process.

"CTP and UBP Cannot Agree on Core Values"

Şahali asserted that no external force can dictate CTP’s actions, and reiterated that there is no possibility of agreement on fundamental values between CTP and UBP. He further stated, “We see UBP as a focus that will not produce benefits for the public.”

Finally, Şahali noted that if Tufan Erhürman were elected President, there would be no issues of alignment with Turkey, citing the Annan Plan as an example.
