Workplace Accident in İskele Claims Life of 54-Year-Old Worker
A fatal workplace accident occurred today at a construction site in the Long Beach area of İskele, resulting in the death of 54-year-old worker Muhammad Nizam Uddin.
According to the Police Press Office, the incident happened around 10:00 a.m. Uddin reportedly lost his balance while working on a third-floor balcony and suffered a severe fall.
He was taken by ambulance to Famagusta State Hospital but, despite medical efforts, did not survive. Eyewitnesses informed Yenidüzen that two individuals from the company quickly left the site with suitcases following the incident, and police were notified. Witnesses also reported that Uddin was working in unsafe conditions, lacking proper safety precautions.
This marks the seventh workplace accident fatality in Northern Cyprus this year. Police data shows one fatal accident occurred in February, with three more in both July and October, compared to five workplace fatalities recorded in 2023. The police have launched an investigation.
