The Republic Assembly initially decided to hold the elections for Speaker and Deputy Speaker simultaneously but later revised this decision. The elections will now be conducted separately. Preparations are underway for the Assembly elections today, where Ziya Öztürkler is running for Speaker and Fazilet Özdenefe for Deputy Speaker.
Election Procedure According to the Assembly Rules
The relevant section of the Republic Assembly’s Internal Regulations states: "The elections for Speaker and Deputy Speaker are conducted separately, with simultaneous, secret voting. In the first four rounds, an absolute majority of the total number of members is required. Abstentions are not considered in these rounds."
