UN’s DiCarlo to Visit in New Year
UN Assistant General Secretary Rosemary DiCarlo will visit Cyprus at the start of the new year, government sources confirmed on Monday.
DiCarlo met Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos in Doha, Qatar on Sunday and the two discussed preparation for an informal “enlarged” meeting to which all parties consented in November.
The so-called 4+1 informal consultation is to involve the Turkish Cypriots, Turkey, the Greek Cypriots, Greece and Guterres, in a discussion on how the future of Cyprus talks would be shaped.
In the framework of the preparation, DiCarlo will visit the island “in the first months” of 2025, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis told the CyBC.
He said she may also discuss the issue of opening additional crossing points with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.
So far only the Greek Cypriot side has submitted proposals on this matter, it was reported on Sunday, while the president said the Greek Cypriot side is “fully prepared” and has done “all the relevant preparatory work.
The two sides have yet to breach their differences on the locations of the crossing points.
