Call to Restore Historic Buildings in Karpaz for Tourism
The Dipkarpaz Environmental Protection and Social Activity Association has called for the historic buildings in the Karpaz region to be repurposed for tourism and allocated to local youth. The association emphasized that addressing youth unemployment is essential to prevent migration from the area.
In a written statement, Association President Fırat Borak highlighted the importance of restoring historic structures for eco-tourism and agricultural production, suggesting that a support system be established to encourage this initiative.
Borak warned against the conversion of historic buildings into reinforced concrete structures or their misuse for purposes that strip them of their natural and cultural essence, which he said leads to the loss of the region’s heritage.
He also underscored the need for comprehensive economic planning to promote the economic empowerment of local youth. “Development plans must be implemented to prevent unemployment among the region’s youth. Otherwise, migration will be inevitable,” Borak stated.
