1,121 Days of Illegal Residence!

Five individuals living without residence permits in the country have been arrested by the police and brought before the court. The suspects, who were found to have lived illegally for periods ranging from 452 to 1,121 days, will remain in custody for further investigation.

The suspects, identified as Ugonna Collins Aloysius, Tarisai Tafadzwa Dhliwayo, Mohammad Saqip Munawar, Yasir Ali, and Gül Rahim, were charged with "residing without a permit."

Details of the Case
Police officer Ahmet Sinanoğlu informed the court about the case of Ugonna Collins Aloysius, while officer Ali Aydoğanlı presented details regarding the other four suspects.

According to Sinanoğlu, Aloysius, a resident of Haspolat, was detained during a patrol by the LPM Crime Prevention Unit on December 14, 2024. Immigration checks revealed that he had been living without a permit for 1,121 days, since November 19, 2021.

Aydoğanlı reported that on the same day, during a check at the Nicosia Criminal Branch, Tafadzwa Dhliwayo was found to have been residing illegally for 988 days since April 1, 2022. Both suspects were initially detained for three days.

On December 17, 2024, further checks by CÖŞ teams in Nicosia revealed that Yasir Ali had been living without a permit for 496 days since August 9, 2023; Mohammad Saqip Munawar for 444 days; and Gül Rahim for 452 days since September 22, 2023.

Detention Periods Approved
Police stated that deportation proceedings had been initiated for all suspects and requested additional detention for further investigation.

Judge Nuray Necdet approved the requested detention periods: an additional eight days for Aloysius and Dhliwayo and two days for Munawar, Ali, and Rahim.
