Letimbiotis emphasized that the proposed dates came from Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and that they are awaiting an official response.

Reiterating that their sole basis for resolving the Cyprus issue is a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, Letimbiotis underlined their commitment to achieving a comprehensive and sustainable solution.

According to Alithia, Letimbiotis stated in response to a question from KYPE that Christodoulides not only proposed the meeting date but also made concrete suggestions during the preparatory phase.

Letimbiotis also noted they are waiting for official updates on the planned visit of UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo as part of preparations for a multilateral conference. He stressed that all efforts must focus on restarting substantive and constructive dialogue aimed at a lasting resolution.

"The Key to the Solution Has Always Been in Nicosia"

In a related analysis titled "50 Years of Occupation, 60 Years of the Cyprus Problem", Alithia criticized the Greek Cypriot leadership for wasting decades and bringing the country to the brink of partition due to indecision and fear of responsibility.

The article claimed that successive Greek Cypriot leaders have disregarded the passage of time and that, entering 2025, the current administration continues to resist setting clear timelines. It added, “The key has always been in Nicosia's hands,” referencing the late Glafcos Clerides’ ability to secure Cyprus’s EU accession despite Turkey’s threats of war without resolving the Cyprus issue.
