Speaking via video at an event organized by the 50th Anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation Celebration Association to commemorate Martyrs’ Week, Tatar expressed gratitude to Türkiye and the Turkish Armed Forces for their unwavering support. He noted that the Cyprus Peace Operation prevented Cyprus from becoming a Greek island and secured the freedom of Turkish Cypriots.

"Strengthened Foundation for Current Policies"

Tatar highlighted that recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean reaffirm the validity of the TRNC’s stance on Cyprus. He remarked that these developments have bolstered the foundation of the pursued policies, further solidifying their rationale.

Referring to geopolitical challenges, Tatar criticized the unilateral EU accession of Greek Cypriots despite their rejection of the Annan Plan, which expanded the EU's borders to include Cyprus. He underscored the strategic importance of the TRNC in the region, particularly regarding energy resources, airspace, maritime jurisdiction, and continental shelf dominance.

Rejection of Federation Talks

Tatar reiterated that efforts to disrupt unity among Turkish Cypriots and weaken the TRNC persist, emphasizing Türkiye’s crucial role as a guarantor and strategic partner. Responding to critics, Tatar rejected notions of resuming federation-based talks, asserting that such ideas seek to sever Turkish Cypriots' ties with Türkiye and diminish their sovereignty.

He called for the continuation of efforts to explain and advocate for the national cause within the Turkish world and among allied nations, emphasizing the need to strengthen moral and national bonds.

Sovereignty and International Equality

Tatar affirmed his commitment to a solution based on the cooperation of two sovereign states, which has Türkiye’s full support. He maintained that a sustainable, lasting, and fair agreement on Cyprus can only be achieved through such a framework, ensuring equal international status and sovereign equality for Turkish Cypriots.

He also referenced the TRNC’s observer membership in the Organization of Turkic States, highlighting its strategic significance as the southernmost state of the Turkish world. Tatar concluded by emphasizing the importance of preserving national values and ensuring that future generations continue the struggle to sustain the TRNC.
