"It is evident that overcoming the ongoing stalemate in the Cyprus peace process and achieving a comprehensive political agreement with international support is only possible with visionary leadership possessing these qualities," Toros stated.

“2024: A Year of Unprecedented Humanitarian Tragedies”

Reflecting on 2024, Toros highlighted the tragedies in Ukraine, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the Middle East, describing the past year as one marked by regional crises and unparalleled human suffering.

“In Gaza, we witnessed the killing of thousands of innocent civilians, violations of fundamental rights, and attacks targeting civilians in defiance of international law. Blockades prevented access to essential resources, and schools, places of worship, and hospitals were targeted. This systematic genocide etched 2024 into history as an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy,” Toros said.

“Cyprus: At the Heart of the Eastern Mediterranean”

Toros noted that these regional developments have reshaped geopolitical relations, particularly concerning security and energy. “The ongoing regional security and humanitarian needs underscore Cyprus’s critical position. It is vital for Cyprus, located at the core of the Eastern Mediterranean, to resolve its 61-year political issue and fulfill its role in achieving regional peace, stability, and security.”

Stressing the necessity of visionary leadership, Toros added: “Turkey’s peaceful and constructive diplomatic initiatives, coupled with productive dialogue with Greece on mutual sensitivities, can significantly accelerate the solution process and play a decisive role in its outcome.”

Toros also underscored the growing realization in Northern Cyprus that bold decisions rooted in a vision of comprehensive solutions based on political equality are key to resolving the socio-political and economic challenges threatening the existence of the Turkish Cypriot community.

“As the Republican Turkish Party, we are excited to welcome 2025 with peaceful, progressive, and scientific policies aligned with universal values. Every step we take under the shade of this great tree aims to create a Cyprus rooted in Peace, Democracy, and Freedom for future generations,” Toros stated.

He expressed confidence in the innovative and entrepreneurial younger generations, who he believes are deeply committed to universal values such as freedom of thought and expression, rule of law, democracy, and human rights.

Concluding his message, Toros wished for 2025 to bring peace, love, brotherhood, and prosperity to Cyprus, the region, and the world.
