Suspects in Alayköy Nightclub Shooting Case Remanded in Custody
Two suspects, taxi driver Orhan Kırkmaz and his acquaintance Mehmet Temizkan, were brought back to court in connection with the shooting at the entrance of the "Prenses" nightclub in the Alayköy area. They face charges of “Illegal Possession and Use of Firearms,” “Illegal Possession of Explosives,” and “Discharging a Firearm in a Residential Area.”
Police officer Toykan Gülerler presented the case details in court, stating that four shots were fired at the main entrance of the nightclub on December 22, 2024, around 8:00 PM. During the investigation, three 9mm bullet casings were recovered 60 meters from the scene, while a Glock firearm, two live 9mm bullets, a magazine, and seven additional bullets were discovered buried 500 meters away. A green jacket was also found 700 meters from the scene.
The investigation traced the suspect’s movements through surveillance footage, revealing the shooter leaving the area and entering a vehicle with license plate NY 607, which then headed to the airport. The driver, Mehmet Temizkan, was arrested in Gönyeli and claimed that Orhan Kırkmaz had instructed him to pick up a passenger and transport them to the airport.
Orhan Kırkmaz stated in his testimony that he had transported the individual in question to the "Prenses" nightclub upon their request. The investigation also determined that the suspected shooter entered the country via Ercan Airport on December 21 at 12:10 AM and departed on December 22 at 9:00 PM.
Police reported that the suspects had previously been remanded twice, with a seven-day detention period during which 50 surveillance recordings were examined, and 20 statements were collected. Ballistic and data analyses of the evidence, as well as phone records, remain under review.
Prosecutor Senem Palabıyık emphasized the importance of analyzing the suspects' phone records and requested an additional three days of detention. Judge Nuray Necdet granted the request, ordering the suspects to remain in custody for three more days to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
