Highlighting the importance of diplomacy and dialogue, Tatar noted, "This time, instead of preserving the status quo, we will focus on achieving a settlement based on realities."

He criticized the Greek Cypriot leadership for targeting the Turkish Cypriot economy, despite ongoing proposals for dialogue and cooperation. Tatar affirmed their commitment to protecting the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people while continuing to advocate for collaboration.

Support for New Crossing Points

President Tatar reiterated his support for opening new crossing points, stating that this would enhance mutual economic activities and foster a culture of cooperation between the two communities. Referring to his discussions with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, Tatar expressed hope for more constructive proposals on the issue.

3D Proposal Presented to the UN

Tatar underscored the importance of the "3D proposal" (direct trade, direct flights, and direct contacts) as a means of addressing the isolation imposed on Turkish Cypriots. He revealed that the proposal was shared with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative, who has been engaging in consultations with various capitals.

Tatar also mentioned his efforts to advocate for the proposal during his visit to New York in April, criticizing the Greek Cypriot side for clinging to the failed framework of Crans-Montana negotiations.

UN Engagement and Informal Meeting

President Tatar highlighted the results of informal meetings with the UN Secretary-General, including discussions on next steps for the Cyprus issue. He noted that the Secretary-General acknowledged the absence of common ground between the two sides and recognized the divergent positions on a resolution.

Tatar also mentioned the planned informal multilateral meeting in Switzerland in March 2025, which will involve both communities, guarantor countries, the UN, and a representative from the UK.

2025: A Year of Intense Activity

Looking ahead, Tatar emphasized the need for a realistic approach to the Cyprus issue, rejecting the continuation of unsuccessful negotiations based on a federation model. He accused the opposition of misleading the public by insisting on an outdated framework and reiterated the importance of prioritizing the interests of the Turkish Cypriot community.

In conclusion, Tatar stated, "As we enter the new year, we are ready to pursue solutions rooted in dialogue, cooperation, and the realities of the island, ensuring the rights and future of the Turkish Cypriot people."
