Akansoy: "This Country Is Slipping Away, We Will Intensify the Struggle in 2025"
The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Secretary-General, Asım Akansoy, appeared on Kuzey Kıbrıs Web TV's program hosted by Ahmet Kaptan and highlighted the growing decay in the country, urging all patriots to join the struggle. "There is a mountain of debris; to eliminate the destruction caused in this country, everyone must take part in the fight," Akansoy stated.
"UBP Serves a Narrow Interest Group"
Akansoy criticized the National Unity Party (UBP), claiming it has devolved into a group serving a narrow interest. "UBP is no longer a party but a clique serving a select few. During the party congress process, more than 300 temporary hires were made, excluding substitute teachers, damaging the institutional structure," he remarked.
Referring to the legal battle over the Speaker of Parliament election, Akansoy said they achieved a victory for law and democracy. He described 2024 as a year of chaos and instability in the country's history.
"The Worst Government in History"
Calling the current administration "the worst government in history," Akansoy criticized the misuse of the earthquake fund. "This government does not have, nor can it have, a program that benefits the public. One cannot expect tears from a stone," he said, asserting that even in 2025, the government will fail to contribute to public healthcare.
"We Must Heal This Wound as a Society"
Acknowledging the challenges of 2025, Akansoy expressed confidence in overcoming the disorder. "Despite everything, we have the capacity to change this chaos. We must show resilience despite the difficulties," he emphasized, underlining the inevitability of an early election. The CTP will lead this process and work with the public to find solutions, he said.
"We Will Fight Together and Succeed"
Akansoy called for a roadmap shaped by public will, stressing collaboration with political parties and civil society to address the ongoing crises. "The fight will continue, and this disorder will end," he affirmed. Criticizing the government's short-term focus, he reiterated the urgency of an early election. "This country is slipping away; we will intensify our efforts and prevail," he concluded.
"Tatar Is at Ground Zero"
Addressing regional developments and their impact on Cyprus, Akansoy criticized President Ersin Tatar. Speaking about the informal talks, he said, "Mr. Tatar must consider diverse opinions in parliament and be aware of the many segments of society advocating for a resolution."
Akansoy highlighted the need for serious discussions with political parties, noting that a new process regarding the Cyprus issue might begin in 2025, coinciding with the October presidential elections. "Our greatest desire is to emerge successfully and open a new chapter for Cyprus," he said.
He accused Tatar of inaction on issues like the Green Line Regulation and relations with the European Union, stating, "He has done nothing. Even the Imagine Project was obstructed. Let him not play the nationalist card with harsh rhetoric. Turkish Cypriots must already begin addressing their grievances stemming from the Cyprus issue."
Akansoy argued that Tatar's tenure weakened the Turkish Cypriots' agency, stating, "A community living on this land has its own will. This existence is built on social and economic foundations, which must be preserved for equality to be claimed. Over the past four and a half years, our ability to act as agents of our future has been undermined."
