50 Accidents, 8 Injuries, ₺2.24 Million in Fines Over the Past Week

Between December 30 and January 5, 50 traffic accidents occurred in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), resulting in eight injuries.

According to a police statement, the total damage from these accidents amounted to ₺2.24 million.

The accidents were distributed as follows: Nicosia (19), Kyrenia (19), Famagusta (8), and Omorfo (2).

Speeding topped the list of violations, with 589 offenses recorded. The distribution of fines issued includes:

  • Speeding (253)
  • Dangerous driving (16)
  • Careless driving (40)
  • Driving without a road tax certificate (199)
  • Driving without a license (10)
  • Driving under the influence (69)
  • Using a mobile phone while driving (199)
  • Driving without a seatbelt (118)
  • Disobeying traffic signs (108)
  • Ignoring traffic lights (5)
  • Driving uninspected vehicles (79)
  • Driving uninsured or improperly insured vehicles (30)
  • Unauthorized use of "T" licensed passenger vehicles (11)
  • Unauthorized use of "B" licensed goods vehicles (4)
  • Using vehicles with obstructive window tints (9)
  • Riding motorcycles without helmets (3)
  • Violating lighting regulations (6)
  • 389 other traffic violations.

As a result of inspections, 182 vehicles were banned from the road, and seven drivers were arrested.
