Proposals for New Crossing Points

Previously, President Tatar emphasized the need for a second vehicular crossing point in Nicosia to alleviate congestion at the Metehan crossing. He proposed the opening of the Haspolat crossing, which aims to ease vehicular traffic and enhance trade volume between the two sides under the Green Line Regulation.

During a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Tatar reiterated his call to the Greek Cypriot leader to present a proposal for a new crossing point if the Haspolat opening requires reciprocity.

Greek Cypriot Response

The Greek Cypriot side has reportedly countered by requesting horizontal and south-to-south transit crossings rather than proposing another crossing point to reciprocate the Haspolat opening.
