Herzog: Unwavering Friendship and Genuine Cooperation with Cyprus
Israeli President Isaac Herzog emphasized the strong and unwavering friendship between Israel and Cyprus during his visit to the Greek Cypriot Administration. In his meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, the two discussed regional challenges, humanitarian aid in Gaza, and the hostages held by Hamas.
The meeting at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia occurred amidst public protests, with demonstrators chanting “Killers go home.” Herzog’s visit followed a trilateral summit in Cairo involving Cyprus, Greece, and Egypt, and he was accompanied by UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed.
During the visit, journalists were reportedly excluded from the meeting, which was held behind closed doors. Herzog, however, shared his reflections afterward, praising the enduring friendship between Israel and Cyprus as a vital pillar for regional stability, security, and hope.
On X (formerly Twitter), Herzog thanked Christodoulides for the productive discussions and highlighted the importance of bringing home the hostages held by Hamas. He also mentioned the significance of regional humanitarian efforts in Gaza and expressed optimism about continued collaboration for a brighter future.
The visit was marked by heightened protests, reflecting strong public sentiment during Herzog's brief stay.
