Arıklı to Bakırcı: "You Became Mayor with Our Votes, Stop Making a Show!"
Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı criticized Erenköy-Dipkarpaz Mayor Hamit Bakırcı for allegedly inciting the local people against them regarding the Karpaz-Manastır road work. Arıklı stated, "You became mayor with our votes, stop making a show."
Arıklı explained that the Karpaz-Manastır road work had been planned by his ministry, with construction scheduled to begin by the end of this month or early April, once the rains subside. He mentioned that during this period, the contractor had been advised to prioritize the Çayönü-Güvercinlik road to minimize disruptions caused by rain. Arıklı noted that this road, which would be upgraded, was less affected by weather conditions.
However, Arıklı criticized Mayor Bakırcı for using the situation to seek attention and stir up trouble with the local people. He pointed out that despite being elected mayor with the support of their votes, Bakırcı had never consulted with them regarding the road project or even reached out for information about recent developments.
Arıklı accused Bakırcı of seeking to score political points through criticism, rather than supporting the project. He reaffirmed that the Ministry would move forward with the roadwork, which had been neglected for 50 years, and complete it in the coming months. Arıklı warned Bakırcı not to overstep boundaries and stop attempting to capitalize on the situation.
