Liman-Sen Holds 4-Hour Strike and Sit-In Protest at Famagusta Port
Members of the Port Workers Union (Liman-Sen) staged a four-hour strike and sit-in protest at Famagusta Port, citing poor working conditions and violations of the collective bargaining agreement.
The protest, which took place from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, was organized in response to unhealthy working environments and inadequate service fees. Speaking during the demonstration, Hüriş Federation of Labor Unions Secretary General Ali Yeltekin stated that the action aimed to address the ongoing challenges faced by port workers.
Yeltekin warned that if no solutions are found, the union is prepared to escalate its actions by blocking access to the port's two main gates and halting cargo unloading operations.
Support from Güç-Sen
Ediz Kanatlı, the head of the Customs Employees Union (Güç-Sen), expressed solidarity with the protest. In a statement, Kanatlı highlighted unresolved issues such as the port's inadequate road and water infrastructure and the failure to meet collective agreement obligations.
“We stand by the port workers and will continue to monitor the process closely,” Kanatlı affirmed.
