In an interview with Kıbrıs Postası, Maviş highlighted how the economic difficulties are severely affecting both families and schools, exacerbating existing inequalities in the education system.

He pointed out that families are struggling to meet the educational needs of their children due to the rising costs, while schools are finding it difficult to provide even basic resources. "This situation poses a serious threat to the future of the country," Maviş added.

"Inequality in Education is Worsening"

Maviş emphasized that the effects of the rising cost of living are not just felt by individuals but are also having serious consequences on the education system as a whole. He explained that schools are struggling to cope with increasing costs, and families are being forced to make significant sacrifices to cover educational expenses.

Maviş called on the government to implement comprehensive policies to offset additional education-related costs, suggesting that temporary tax reductions on essential needs such as food, transportation, and energy, along with expanding social assistance, should be considered to prevent further inequality.

He also reiterated KTÖS’s call for the implementation of the “Where Did You Find It?” law and wealth tax measures, arguing that the income inequality created by the informal economy further amplifies educational disparities. "The government must plan these regulations for the public good within the framework of social dialogue," Maviş concluded.

"Social Dialogue is Crucial"

Maviş stressed that the well-being of society should be measured not only by economic indicators but also by improvements in social and educational sectors. "The fight against the rising cost of living should be addressed within the principles of social consensus and social dialogue," he said.

He emphasized that KTÖS will maintain a constructive dialogue throughout the process, stating, "We can only achieve sustainable solutions in areas ranging from education and health to the economy and social policies by working together."
