Erhürman Leads Tatar by 4 Points in Presidential Poll
According to the December 2024 survey by the Centre for Migration, Identity, and Rights Studies (CMIRS), Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Tufan Erhürman holds a 4% lead over his closest rival, President Ersin Tatar, in a potential presidential election.
The survey highlights that CTP maintains its position as the leading political party, reflecting growing voter demand for profound political change.
CTP Retains Top Spot
CMIRS Director Mine Yücel stated that long-standing governance weaknesses have been consistently identified in surveys. Historically, the National Unity Party (UBP) was the leading party in electoral forecasts, but this shifted in March 2024 when CTP emerged as the frontrunner. Yücel emphasized that this trend has continued, with the latest data showing a decline in UBP's support.
Yücel underlined that replacing one party with another would not suffice, stressing the need for substantial political reform to address systemic issues.
Call for a New Political Approach
Yücel called for strengthening institutions, reshaping politics to serve societal interests, upholding the rule of law, eradicating corruption, and resisting external interventions. Without such measures, she warned, resolving the country’s problems would remain elusive. She also emphasized rebuilding public trust in politicians to drive this transformation.
Erhürman Ahead in Presidential Race
While official candidates for the presidency are yet to be announced, the survey indicates that Tufan Erhürman enjoys significant public trust, with a 4% lead over other potential candidates. This reinforces the CTP leader's appeal among voters.
