Historic Move in Parliament: Speaker Öztürkler Names Absentees from the Podium
The Republic's Assembly General Council failed to convene for the second time due to a lack of quorum today, marking an unprecedented move in parliamentary history. Assembly Speaker Ziya Öztürkler took to the podium and publicly named the MPs who did not attend the session.
The first attempt at the meeting was delayed by 15 minutes after failing to secure the minimum attendance of 26 members. However, the quorum was not achieved in the second attempt either, leading to a 24-hour postponement.
In a rare step, Speaker Öztürkler announced from the podium that Erhan Arıklı, Talip Atalay, Yasemin Öztürkler, Resmiye Canaltay, and Ali Pilli were absent.
The agenda for the session included the Security Public Servants (Amendment) Bill, the Regulation of Monthly (Salary-Wage) and Other Payments of Public Employees (Amendment) Bill, and the Taxation of Undeclared Income of Deceased Persons and Inherited Assets (Amendment) Bill, along with related committee reports from the Economy, Finance, Budget, and Planning Committee.
Additionally, the third reading of a resolution concerning the substitution of an olive tree located on land owned by Murat Kaya İnşaat Ltd. in Zeytinlik village was also on the agenda.
