Seven Fires in One Week, Causing 685,000 TL in Damage

In the past week, seven fires occurred in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), resulting in a total damage of 685,000 TL. Additionally, 33 special service incidents were reported during the same period.

According to a statement from the Fire Department (PGM-İtfaiye Müdürlüğü), the fires that took place between January 13 and 19 were caused by various factors, including "electricity-related short circuits (4), gas leaks (1), a cigarette butt thrown without being extinguished (1), and a candle falling onto a bed and igniting (1)."

The fires were spread across several regions, with two fires each in Geçitkale and Gemikonağı, and one fire each in Nicosia, Famagusta, and Kyrenia.

Out of these fires, four involved motor vehicles, while the remaining ones included incidents with LPG, a trash bin, and residential fires.

In addition to the fires, 33 special service incidents were reported, including rescues from elevators and traffic accidents, fire prevention measures, rescuing dogs and goats trapped in deep wells, fire safety training, rescuing a pigeon stuck in an air conditioning unit, and the transportation of deceased persons for forensic investigation.

The breakdown of the 33 special service incidents is as follows: 14 incidents in Nicosia, six in Famagusta, five in Kyrenia, four in Iskele, three in Omorfo, and one in Geçitkale.

Regarding the types of special service incidents, the breakdown is as follows: 9 related to the transportation of deceased persons for forensic investigation, 9 involving fire safety training, 8 rescues, 5 fire prevention measures, and 2 ensuring road safety.
